India, Canada Sign Long-Term Uranium Supply Deal Push Forward On CEPA
The two leaders reviewed progress across key sectors and signed several agreements, including a landmark pact on long-term uranium supply for India's civil nuclear energy programme.
“We have struck a landmark deal for long-term uranium supply. We will also work together on small modular reactors and advanced reactors,” PM Modi said, PTI reported.
Trade and Strategic Cooperation
India and Canada agreed to soon finalise a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), firming up its terms of reference. They also signed an agreement on cooperation in the critical minerals sector.
Modi said both countries share democratic values and a commitment to diversity and global well-being, and discussed elevating“this vision into a next level partnership”.
Cooperation in defence industries and maritime domain awareness will also be strengthened.
Regional Security and Counter-Terrorism
The leaders discussed the evolving security situation in West Asia.
In a media statement, Modi said,“The current situation in West Asia is a matter of grave concern for us. India supports the resolution of all disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.”
“We will continue to work with all countries to ensure the safety of all Indian citizens present in this region,” he added.
Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in combating terrorism, extremism and radicalisation, calling them shared global challenges.
In his remarks, Carney said India and Canada are expanding a valued partnership with new ambitions for the future.
