Hotels have been“kindly requested to extend their stay until they are able to depart,” the notice states.

The department confirmed that the cost of the extended stay will be borne by DCT Abu Dhabi. Hotels have been asked to send related invoices directly to the authority via a designated email address. A business continuity team is also available for further inquiries.

Khaleej Times contacted two hotels in Abu Dhabi on Sunday evening. Both confirmed that guests stranded by flight disruptions with existing reservations were allowed to extend their stay.

“Yes, we have received the circular. Guests who cannot travel and were due to check out have been permitted to stay on. We are coordinating the process as advised,” a front office executive at a five-star property said.

A staff member at another hotel also confirmed that stranded guests had been accommodated beyond their original booking dates.“We have allowed extensions in line with the directive,” the employee said.

The directive follows a broader federal response to the disruption. Earlier in the day, the UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said the state was covering the costs of hosting and accommodation for passengers affected by yesterday's flight cancellations and the temporary airspace closure.

In a statement carried by Wam, the GCAA said:“The state is bearing all hosting and accommodation costs for affected and stranded passengers, ensuring the continued provision of essential services during the period of operational adjustments.”

According to the authority, around 20,200 passengers received temporary accommodation and rebooking support.

The move has drawn praise online, with several residents and travellers commending the authorities for stepping in to support affected visitors.
