Bosnia Air Traffic Agency Stays Prepared as Middle East Airspaces Close

(MENAFN) The Air Navigation Services Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BHANSA) announced on Saturday that it is prepared for all scenarios following airspace closures in parts of the Middle East amid rising security tensions.

The agency cited the sudden deterioration of the situation in Iran and surrounding regions, which has led to the closure of airspaces over Israel, Iran, Iraq, Syria, and other countries. In response, European authorities have activated crisis coordination for air traffic. Network analysis estimates indicate that over 1,100 flights have been affected.

Several international carriers, including Aegean, Air France, KLM, British Airways, Iberia, LOT, Lufthansa, Norwegian, Scandinavian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Virgin, Qatar Airways, and Wizz Air, have temporarily suspended or canceled operations to destinations such as Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Dubai, and Israel, in accordance with their operational plans.

Some flights are expected to be rerouted through alternative corridors via Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Cyprus, Turkey, and Southeastern Europe. A modest increase in transit traffic through the South-East Axis, including Bosnia and Herzegovina’s airspace, is anticipated.

BHANSA Director Davorin Primorac stated that the agency is closely monitoring developments and is ready to adjust operational capacities to maintain safe, stable, and smooth air traffic flow.
