UN Rapporteur Says US, Israel “Destroy World Peace” With Strikes on Iran

(MENAFN) The UN special rapporteur on the right to housing, Balakrishnan Rajagopal, accused the United States and Israel Saturday of “destroying world peace and order” following their military strikes on Iran, as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise.

Writing on the US-based social media platform X, Rajagopal said, "I strongly deplore the attack on Iran by US and Israel and the cowardly complicity of States who approve this or stay silent."

He warned that "so many innocents will die and people’s homes destroyed because of this," adding, "US-Israel are destroying world peace and order."

The strikes were launched early Saturday by Washington and Tel Aviv, citing alleged "threats" posed by the "Iranian regime." They came after the latest round of US-Iran nuclear negotiations concluded Thursday in Geneva, which both sides had described as serious and constructive under Omani mediation.

Last June, the United States had struck three Iranian nuclear sites amid a 12-day Israel-Iran conflict.
