Amman, Feb. 15 (Petra) -- The Eastern Military Zone thwarted ten coordinated attempts to smuggle large quantities of narcotics into the Kingdom early Sunday using electronically guided balloons, according to a military statement.
Border Guard units detected the simultaneous launches through advanced monitoring and surveillance operations, in coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department. The balloons and their payloads were intercepted and brought down over Jordanian territory before being seized and handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
The Jordanian Armed Forces said the smuggling attempts were designed to distract border surveillance and evade monitoring, adding that the military will continue deploying its capabilities to counter infiltration and smuggling operations and safeguard national security and stability.
