Two Students Stabbed in London School, Teen Arrested

(MENAFN) Authorities have detained a 13-year-old suspect following a knife attack that injured two students at a northwest London secondary school Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency responders rushed to Kingsbury High School in the Brent district around 12:40 pm (1240GMT) after receiving reports of a stabbing incident, media reported.

The assault left a 12-year-old and a 13-year-old boy wounded, both of whom were transported to medical facilities by the London Ambulance Service. Police quickly identified a teenage suspect and launched an immediate manhunt.

A 13-year-old male was subsequently taken into custody on attempted murder charges, authorities confirmed.

Counter-terrorism officers are spearheading the investigation, though officials have not classified the incident as terror-related.

Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams revealed armed response units and local police arrived at the scene within 13 minutes of the emergency call. Officers recovered what they believe to be the weapon used in the assault, and the suspect remains detained.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood condemned the violence as a "shocking attack."

"The police have arrested the suspect...We must now give them the space to pursue their investigation," she said on the US social media company X's platform.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan issued a statement expressing solidarity: "My thoughts are with the family, friends and wider community in Brent following the appalling stabbings today."

Muhammed Butt, leader of the Brent Council, characterized the violence as a "deeply shocking and distressing incident."

"No parent should ever have to fear for their child's safety at school, and it is horrifying to think of how someone so young came to be in possession of a weapon capable of causing such harm," he said in a statement.
