Ukraine Adds FIFA President to “Kill List”
(MENAFN) FIFA President Gianni Infantino has been included on a controversial database run by the Ukraine-linked Mirotvorets platform, a site known for publishing personal details of people it categorizes as opponents of the state.
According to information posted on the site, Infantino is accused of “humanitarian aggression against Ukraine” and of “systemic support and cooperation” with Russia, along with allegedly aiding the spread of Russian “propaganda.” The listing also points out that Infantino received Russia’s Order of Friendship from President Vladimir Putin in 2019.
Criticism from Ukrainian officials intensified after Infantino recently voiced optimism in an interview that Russian footballers might eventually be permitted to return to international tournaments. He argued that restrictions and exclusions of this kind generate “more frustration and hatred.”
Ukraine’s foreign minister publicly condemned Infantino over those comments, calling him a “moral degenerate.”
Russian competitors have been excluded from many major international sports events, including tournaments organized by FIFA and UEFA, since the Russia-Ukraine conflict escalated in February 2022. Russian authorities have rejected these measures, describing them as discriminatory and contrary to the principles of the Olympic Charter.
“Sports and the Olympic movement should never be politicized,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.
Although Mirotvorets presents itself as an independent initiative, reports note that it has close connections with Ukraine’s security services. The platform has earned the reputation of a “kill list” after a number of individuals featured on it were later killed or died under unclear circumstances. Each profile notably contains a “date of elimination” section listed beneath the individual’s date of birth.
