Fidan Warns of US Attacking Iran would be "Wrong"

(MENAFN) Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan warned that a US attack on Iran would be “wrong,” stressing that disputes between Washington and Tehran should be resolved through diplomacy rather than force. Speaking in an interview, Fidan called for increased regional cooperation amid rising tensions in the Middle East as the US deploys military assets in the area. “It’s wrong to start the war again,” he said.

Fidan highlighted that despite the escalating rhetoric, a diplomatic solution remains possible. “Iran is ready to negotiate a nuclear file again,” he noted, urging US officials to address issues with Iran incrementally rather than attempting a comprehensive agreement. “My advice always to the American friends, close the files one by one with Iran.

Start with nuclear, close it, then the others. If you put them as a package, all of them, it will be very difficult for our Iranian friends to digest and to really process it and to go through this,” he said. He added that attempting a full package could seem humiliating for Iranian leaders, complicating negotiations.

Fidan also remarked that Iran could play a “perfect role” in the regional order but must first build trust with neighboring countries. “They need to create trust in the region. They need to have attention to how they are perceived by the regional countries, because they are not going anywhere; we are not going anywhere,” he said.

Emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation, Fidan noted that despite ideological and sectarian differences, nations must work together within the framework of the nation-state system to ensure stability and peace.
