Italian PM Says Disagrees With Trump Over Greenland
Rome: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Friday that she disagrees with US President Donald Trump on Greenland.
Speaking at her year-end press conference, Meloni said she disagrees with Trump on many things. "I do not agree with Trump on Greenland," she added.
Meloni stressed the need to defend international law, warning that "when the rules are broken, we're all much more exposed."
She said US military action against Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, would not be in anyone's interests, noting that she does not believe in the hypothesis that the U.S. would launch a military action to take control of Greenland, "an option I would clearly not support."
Since taking office again in January 2025, Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in gaining control of Greenland, saying that he would not rule out using "military or economic coercion" to achieve that goal.
Denmark and other European countries have strongly opposed such moves.
