Türkiye Urges YPG/SDF to Honor Syria Integration Deal

(MENAFN) Türkiye is expecting the terrorist group YPG/SDF to adhere fully to the agreement reached on March 10 in Syria and to carry out all commitments outlined in the deal, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Friday.

Addressing a joint meeting of Turkish and Indonesian foreign and defense ministers in Ankara, Fidan underlined that maintaining law and order in Syria is vital for social stability and the well-being of civilians.

He emphasized that counterterrorism operations must be pursued decisively and without interruption to ensure lasting peace.

The agreement, announced by the Syrian presidency on March 10, 2025, called for the integration of the SDF into official state institutions. It also reaffirmed Syria’s territorial integrity and rejected any initiatives aimed at fragmenting the country.

However, Turkish and Syrian authorities have stated that in the months following the signing of the deal, the SDF has failed to take concrete steps toward fulfilling its obligations under the agreement.

Since the removal of the Assad regime in December 2024, which ended 24 years of rule, the Syrian government has stepped up efforts to strengthen security and restore stability throughout the country.
