Modern Farming Boosts Pea Harvest In Khyber
In District Khyber, the pea crop has once again been cultivated this season with improved agricultural results, which has created a sense of satisfaction among local farmers.
According to agricultural experts, the current crop has produced high-quality yield, and farmers are expected to gain suitable financial benefits this year as well.
Last year, peas produced in District Khyber not only fulfilled domestic demand but were also exported to Qatar and Saudi Arabia. As a result, District Khyber secured a leading position in pea production across Pakistan.
This progress is being attributed to the technical support of the District Khyber Agriculture Department, organized training of farmers, and continuous guidance at the field level.
The initiatives and support provided by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government to improve the agricultural sector have also played a significant role in this achievement.
Farmers adopted a modern vertical support system for pea cultivation, which led to better crop growth and a clear increase in per-acre yield.
According to agricultural experts, two basic farming methods are commonly practiced.
Horizontal farming is the traditional method in which crops are grown on open fields at ground level. This method is widely used in Pakistan because it involves relatively lower costs and allows cultivation over large areas.
In contrast, vertical farming is a modern agricultural technique in which crops are grown on supports or at different levels, enabling better production with less land and less water.
Due to limited land availability, this method is being preferred in developed countries and urban areas.
Under the guidance of the Agriculture Department, tomato cultivation is also underway in District Khyber through walking tunnels, where the use of modern agricultural technology has resulted in improved crop quality and yield.
These measures reflect the enhancement of technical capacity among local farmers and the effective guidance of the Agriculture Department.
Through the joint efforts of the District Khyber Agriculture Department, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government, and farmers, these agricultural activities are progressing effectively, contributing not only to the stability of the local economy but also to the promotion of national agricultural exports.
