Ukraine Adds 423 MW Of Additional Capacity In 2025 Through Special Auctions For Ancillary Services

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) That is according to the national power company, Ukrinform reports.

"Thanks to the first two special auctions for the long-term procurement of ancillary services conducted by NPC Ukrenergo in August last year, 423 MW of new balancing capacity have been added to Ukraine's power system this year," the statement said.

The total certified capacity of newly commissioned energy facilities ready to provide frequency containment reserve services amounts to 117 MW. Another 333 MW comes from new facilities prepared to provide automatic frequency restoration reserve services. Some of the newly built facilities can provide both services.

The largest share of new balancing capacity comes from energy storage systems, with 398 MW installed this year. Fast reserve functions are also provided by newly built gas piston units with a total capacity of 25 MW.

As reported, based on the final results of four special auctions for the procurement of ancillary services, Ukrenergo contracted up to 810 MW of capacity to help balance the power system. These auctions foresee five-year contracts with Ukrenergo, fixed in euros, with a deferred start of service provision.

The first facility contracted under the special auctions for long-term procurement of ancillary services was commissioned in February 2025.
