Qatar Offers Mediation After U.S. Strikes in Venezuela
(MENAFN) On Saturday, Qatar announced its willingness to participate in any global initiative aimed at achieving an “immediate peaceful solution” in Venezuela, stressing the importance of restraint and de-escalation.
In an official declaration, the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs voiced serious concern over the unfolding situation in Venezuela, following American strikes on Caracas and the detention of President Nicolas Maduro along with his spouse.
The ministry appealed to all sides to act with restraint, ease tensions, and engage in dialogue to resolve outstanding disputes. It reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to the UN Charter and the principles of international law, particularly the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
Doha reiterated its readiness to support international mediation efforts, emphasizing its determination to maintain open communication channels with all relevant parties.
Meanwhile, after the U.S. strikes and the capture of Maduro and his wife, President Donald Trump declared that “we're going to run the country until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition.”
During a press briefing, Trump revealed that Maduro and his wife were being transported by ship to New York, where a decision would be made on whether they would face trial in New York or Miami.
He further stated that “very large” American oil corporations would invest “billions of dollars” to repair Venezuela’s “badly broken” energy infrastructure and “start making money for the country.”
