President Urges Sri Lankans To Unite For National Rebuilding

(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has called on all Sri Lankans to unite with determination and confidence as the country enters 2026, following what he described as the most extensive reform and reconstruction effort in the nation's modern history.

In his New Year message, the President said that despite numerous challenges, 2025 laid a strong foundation for sustainable development aligned with national aspirations. He highlighted several key economic achievements, including the lowest budget deficit recorded since 1977, the highest government revenue since 2007, and the country's first-ever primary account surplus. Export earnings from goods and services rose to nearly USD 17 billion, government revenue targets were exceeded at unprecedented levels, and tourist arrivals reached a historic high. These developments made 2025 a landmark year in Sri Lanka's economic recovery.

President Dissanayake noted that 2025 would also be remembered as a turning point in Sri Lanka's political and social transformation. Initiatives aimed at fostering a clean, people-centred political culture, dismantling long-standing corrupt practices, and the nationwide“A Nation United” campaign to protect future generations from narcotic drugs reflected the long-standing aspirations of the people.

The President also referred to one of the most severe natural disasters in recent history and emphasized the unity and compassion shown by citizens across the country in the face of adversity. He expressed his gratitude to Sri Lankans living overseas, friendly nations that extended assistance, and the Police, Tri-Forces, and public service officials who worked tirelessly, often at great personal risk, to respond to the crisis.

Acknowledging that the path to recovery remains long, the President said Sri Lanka's greatest strength lies in the courage and determination of its people. He expressed confidence that through collective resolve, the nation could be rebuilt into something stronger and better than before.

Calling the New Year an opportunity for reflection and renewal, President Dissanayake urged all Sri Lankans to join hands in unity, determination, and optimism in the task of national rebuilding.

He concluded by wishing that 2026 would be a victorious year in which the hopes and aspirations of all citizens are fulfilled.
