Zelenskyy Asks Trump to Extend Security Guarantees

(MENAFN) Volodymyr Zelenskyy disclosed Monday that he has urged Donald Trump to extend American security commitments to Kyiv spanning three to five decades.

The US President indicated he would "think about" the extended timeline proposal, Zelenskyy revealed.

However, the Ukrainian leader confirmed that existing arrangements will "definitely" secure American protection for a 15-year term under current frameworks.

Zelenskyy announced expectations for upcoming negotiations with Washington to convene in Kyiv next month.

"(Head of Ukraine's National Defense and Security Council) Rustem Umerov is already coordinating this process with partners. After the meeting, negotiations between European leaders and Ukraine, alignment of key documents, and preparation of contacts between Trump and European leaders are planned," Zelenskyy stated during a Mar-a-Lago, Florida media briefing alongside Trump.

The Ukrainian head of state noted that Trump had presented his 20-point peace framework to Vladimir Putin, with the Russian President signaling openness to conflict resolution.

"I don't want to delve into details now. But I told the president that for us ... it is important that words match deeds," Zelenskyy emphasized.

Addressing questions regarding Ukraine's potential suspension of martial law, Zelenskyy specified that such action requires "appearance of real security guarantees," which must include international military presence on Ukrainian territory.
