French actress, animal rights campaigner Brigitte Bardot passes away

(MENAFN) French actress and animal rights campaigner Brigitte Bardot has passed away at the age of 91, her foundation announced on Sunday. The Brigitte Bardot Foundation described her as a “world-renowned actress and singer” and paid tribute to her choice to leave the spotlight to dedicate her life to animal welfare.

Bardot rose to international fame in the 1950s and 1960s, starring in numerous films and becoming a symbol of French cinema, style, and popular culture. In the early 1970s, she retired from acting and focused on animal rights activism, founding the Brigitte Bardot Foundation in 1986 to combat animal cruelty and support protection initiatives worldwide.

The foundation’s statement did not specify the time or place of her death.
