Türkiye Refutes Claims of Flight Diversion Over Libya Incident

(MENAFN) On Sunday, Türkiye rejected allegations that a Turkish Airlines passenger jet avoided landing in Libya due to fears of retaliation following the crash of a Libyan military delegation’s aircraft near Ankara.

“The TK641 Istanbul–Benghazi flight dated Dec. 24, 2025, was diverted to Bodrum Milas Airport due to wind conditions at the destination airport exceeding operational limits. There was no route change for any other reason,” declared Türkiye's Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal.

The center emphasized that flights to Libya proceeded as planned in the subsequent days without interruption.

“The public is kindly urged not to give credence to such unfounded claims containing disinformation aimed at undermining our relations with friendly and brotherly Libya through a tragic accident,” the statement continued.

A private jet transporting the Libyan military delegation crashed near the Turkish capital on Dec. 23, resulting in the deaths of all eight individuals aboard, including three crew members.
