Violence in Sudan’s Kordofan Causes 1,200 New Displacements

(MENAFN)
More than 1,200 individuals have recently been uprooted from South and North Kordofan in southern Sudan due to worsening instability, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

In a statement, the UN body explained that its displacement teams documented the movement of 780 residents from the city of Dilling in South Kordofan between Wednesday and Friday, as the security situation deteriorated.

The atmosphere in the region remains extremely fragile and unpredictable, with the organization continuing to closely observe developments.

Additionally, 510 people were forced to leave the village of Al-Sanjouqi, located in the Umm Dam Haj Ahmed area of North Kordofan, also because of insecurity. These displaced families relocated to various sites within the Umm Dam Haj Ahmed and Sheikan localities.

Earlier, on December 18, the IOM reported that the total number of displaced persons across Sudan’s three Kordofan states—North, West, and South—had reached 50,445 between October 26 and December 17.

The three states have endured weeks of intense clashes between the national army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which have compelled tens of thousands of civilians to abandon their homes.
