Egypt, Russia Underscore Importance of Enforcing Gaza Ceasefire Deal

(MENAFN) Egypt and Russia's top diplomats underscored Friday the critical necessity of enforcing the Gaza ceasefire agreement and maintaining its durability as Israeli violations persist.

At a joint press conference in Cairo, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty revealed that Egypt is deploying intensive diplomatic resources to stabilize the truce and facilitate humanitarian aid delivery into Gaza, stressing implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and the imperative to reopen the Rafah crossing for bidirectional passage.

Abdelatty emphasized the robust nature of Egyptian-Russian relations spanning multiple sectors, confirming discussions with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, regarding the strategic alliance between Cairo and Moscow and mechanisms to expand bilateral commerce.

The ministers also addressed the crisis in Sudan and regional de-escalation strategies, according to an Egyptian state-run channel.

Lavrov disclosed that trade exchange with Egypt has surged by over 12% in recent months, affirming that both nations maintain aligned perspectives on numerous international matters.
Diplomatic initiatives must persist to guarantee the Gaza ceasefire's longevity, Lavrov stressed, highlighting the necessity of advancing toward a two-state solution and reducing tensions in the West Bank, according to the news channel.

The Russian foreign minister commended Egypt's diplomatic role and mediation efforts between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency, while praising what he characterized as Cairo's "balanced" stance on the Ukraine crisis, asserting that resolution becomes achievable "once the root causes are removed."

Lavrov's visit to Egypt coincides with the second ministerial meeting of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum spanning Friday and Saturday, drawing participation from over 50 African countries and heads of regional organizations.
