Ian Scoones

Ian Scoones is a professor at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex and was a recipient of a European Research Council Advanced Grant for the PASTRES project Pastoralism, Uncertainty and Resilience: Global Lessons from the Margins. He is the author of Navigating Uncertainty: Radical Rethinking for a Turbulent World (Polity Books, 2024).
Ian is an agricultural ecologist by original training, and works on land, livelihoods and agrarian and environmental change, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa.
