Doha, Qatar: With 68 players and referees taking part, and dozens more cheering, the cricket league for the Sri Lankan community has kicked off.

The Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Center organises this programme in response to the need of these communities for recreational activities, accompanied by general educational segments about Qatari society and its traditions.

The league continues over three Fridays, during which participants compete enthusiastically and enjoy their time together.

This is followed by brief talks highlighting the key customs and behaviours that must be observed in Qatar out of respect for its identity and society.

At the conclusion of the league, the winning team is honoured with a symbolic trophy. A basketball league is also held for the Filipino community, and a volleyball league for the Nepalese community.

These sports activities are part of the Center's strategy to meet the needs of various communities by planning and organising diverse programmes that combine education and entertainment in line with audience interests, reflecting the Center's recognition of the importance of engaging with communities and caring for them.
