Police Report Sixteen Casualties at Sydney Beach Shooting

(MENAFN) At least 16 individuals lost their lives and around 40 others were still receiving medical treatment following a shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, according to New South Wales (NSW) police on Sunday.

Authorities stated that "More information will be made available soon," in a message shared by police on the US-based social media platform X.

NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon officially classified the mass shooting as “a terrorist incident."

NSW Premier Chris Minns said the attack was “designed to target the Jewish community.”

An official NSW police report said that “a man believed to be one of the shooters” was among those who died. Police added that the second suspected attacker was in critical condition.
Two police officers were also included among those injured in the violence.

The statement further noted that “a number of suspicious items located in the vicinity are being examined by specialist officers, and an exclusion zone is in place.”

Authorities added: “An extensive crime scene has been established, and inquiries are now underway. There have been NO reports of any other incidents in Sydney connected to this incident.”
