China plans to host thirty-third APEC summit in Shenzhen

(MENAFN) China will host the 33rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit next year in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, scheduled for November 18–19, according to official reports.

Speaking at the handover ceremony of the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Gyeongju, Chinese President Xi Jinping said Beijing is prepared to unite participating economies to advance the vision of an Asia-Pacific community. Xi highlighted priorities including regional growth, prosperity, and practical cooperation on initiatives such as the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP), connectivity, digital economy, and artificial intelligence.

He added that these efforts aim to invigorate development in the region and deliver tangible benefits to its people.

This will mark the third occasion China has hosted the APEC summit.

Ahead of the leaders’ meeting, Hong Kong will host the APEC Finance Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) for the first time in October, according to a statement from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government. Chief Executive John Lee emphasized that Hong Kong’s role as an international financial center will support the successful organization of the FMM.

He also noted that the event offers an opportunity for Hong Kong to strengthen international cooperation and engagement, further integrating into and contributing to the nation’s broader development goals.
