Tunisia, Algeria sign 15 accords for cooperation in various spheres including energy

TUNIS, Dec 12 (KUNA) -- Tunisia and Algeria signed on Friday 25 accords for boosting cooperation in various spheres including energy, according to a statement released by the Tunisian premiership.
The official statement said the agreements, along with a number of memoranda of understanding, signed under supervision of Tunisian Prime Minister Sarra Senzeri and her Algerian counterpart Sifi Ghrieb, cover means of enhancing cooperation in the diplomatic, economic, labor, educational, health, cultural and media fields.
Ghrieb affirmed significance of the talks held within the 23rd session of the joint commission "for facing security challenges namely securing the joint borders."
He has affirmed that Algerian "energy exports" contribute to meeting domestic demand, alluding to the demand for gas and power. Has also indicated at the necessity to execute planned ventures to "enhance the power grid."
The Tunisia-Algeria power grid is a significant cross-border interconnection, crucial for energy exchange, with multiple high-voltage lines linking the two countries and synchronizing them with the wider European system via Morocco.
Moreover, Ghrieb affirmed need for "adequate conditions" to hike commercial exchanges and remove hurdles in the face of boosting the trade swaps.
Volume of the commercial exchanges between the two countries was estimated at USD 2.3 billion in 2024, with a 12 percent increase compared to the previous year. (end)
