Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake Rocks China’s Tibet

(MENAFN) A 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck Tibet—locally designated as Xizang—in southern China on Thursday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed.

The tremor hit at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) at 1159GMT, USGS reported.

China Earthquake Networks Center registered the seismic event at magnitude 5, a state-controlled news agency stated.

No immediate casualties or structural damage have been reported.

The region remains vulnerable following the devastating 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Xigaze city on January 7 this year, claiming lives of 126 people and forcing more than 60,000 residents from their homes. That disaster left over 22,000 people injured.
