Trump launches immigration program to provide accelerated residency

(MENAFN) According to reports, U.S. President Donald Trump introduced the “Trump Gold Card,” a new immigration program designed to provide accelerated residency to applicants who pay government fees and contribute $1 million to the United States. The announcement was made Wednesday during a White House roundtable with technology industry executives.

“Very excitingly for me and for the country, we’ve just launched the Trump Gold Card,” Trump said, noting that the application portal would become active the same day. He emphasized that the program could generate “tremendous amounts of money” while addressing concerns among businesses about retaining top international talent.

Applicants must pay a nonrefundable $15,000 processing fee to the Department of Homeland Security and, following background approval, make a $1 million contribution to secure expedited U.S. residency, according to official information. Corporations can sponsor employees for $2 million to receive the same benefits.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick explained that applicants would undergo “the best vetting the government has ever done,” and recipients would become eligible for U.S. citizenship after five years. Companies would also be able to sponsor additional employees once earlier recipients are naturalized.

The administration is planning a separate “Trump Platinum Card,” requiring a $5 million contribution and allowing approved foreign nationals to spend up to 270 days a year in the U.S. without paying taxes on foreign income.

Trump argued that the initiative would benefit businesses and generate “billions of dollars” for the U.S. Treasury. He highlighted that major firms, including Apple, struggle to retain top international graduates because current visa processes do not guarantee long-term status. “They graduate number one in their class and there’s no way of guaranteeing they can stay,” he said.
