UNIFIL Condemns Israeli Airstrikes On Southern Lebanon
Beirut: The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) condemned the Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon, describing them as "a clear violation” of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
In a statement issued on Friday, UNIFIL called on the Israeli army to make use of the established liaison and coordination mechanisms, warning against any actions that could further escalate the situation.
Separately, the peacekeeping force reported that one of its patrols had come under fire near Bint Jbeil, with no injuries reported. UNIFIL affirmed that it continues to monitor and report on developments on the ground.
The UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon also urged full adherence to Resolution 1701 and to the understandings reached to date, to safeguard the progress achieved so far.
