KRCS: Int'l Volunteer Day Deepens Kuwait's Humanitarian Legacy

KUWAIT, Dec 5 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Secretary General Fahad Al-Mandeel said Friday that strengthening community participation and adopting policies that support volunteer work are key to expanding humanitarian efforts in society and enhancing volunteers' role in development.
Speaking to KUNA on International Volunteer Day, marked annually on December 5, he said the day is an opportunity to thank all male and female volunteers, and for institutions concerned with volunteerism to boost their contributions and continue Kuwait's deep-rooted tradition of giving.
The occasion is a yearly reminder to celebrate volunteers who embody the highest values of generosity and humanity and highlight Kuwait's leading role in humanitarian work, Al-Mandeel said.
He described volunteers as Kuwait's present and future, noting that the past year witnessed major achievements by Kuwaiti youth driven by responsibility and commitment to their community.
International Volunteer Day is both a moment of celebration in what has been achieved over the past year and a starting point for a new year of wider humanitarian action by Kuwait and its institutions at regional and international levels, he added.
Al-Mandeel underlined that KRCS volunteers have had a strong presence in many initiatives inside and outside Kuwait, and that volunteerism has become a noble human value celebrated globally in recognition of its role in supporting sustainable development.
He called for further promoting a culture of volunteerism, raising awareness of the importance of humanitarian work, and highlighting KRCS efforts in various fields, confirming that supporting volunteer initiatives is a direct investment in building a strong and cohesive society.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) designated December 5 as International Volunteer Day in 1985 to recognize volunteers' contributions and highlight the spirit of volunteerism at local, national, and international levels. (end)
