Tensions rise as Israeli army intensifies West Bank raids

(MENAFN) The Israeli army intensified its campaign in the northern West Bank on Thursday, enforcing a strict cordon on the Kafr Saba neighborhood in Qalqilya and limiting Palestinian movement within the area.

Troops entered Qalqilya at dawn, imposed a curfew on Kafr Saba, and deployed across multiple sections of the city, witnesses reported. Soldiers conducted home searches and questioned residents as tensions escalated around the neighborhood.

In a separate operation, the army withdrew from Masliya, south of Jenin, after several hours of raids and curfew enforcement, leaving visible damage across the town. Meanwhile, Israeli forces continued their third consecutive day of operations in Qabatiya, maintaining strict movement restrictions and carrying out repeated home searches.

The northern West Bank has experienced a sharp rise in military activity since last week, beginning with operations in Tubas and Tammun before extending to Qabatiya and Masliya.

The campaign has included curfews, raids, mass arrests, and damage to infrastructure.

Since October 2023, more than 1,087 Palestinians have been killed and 10,700 injured during attacks by the army and illegal Israeli settlers in occupied territories, with over 20,500 people detained, according to reports.

In a landmark ruling last July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
