Israel Kills Palestinian Journalist in Gaza Despite Ceasefire
(MENAFN) A Palestinian journalist died in an Israeli strike targeting southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday, breaching a ceasefire brokered by US President Donald Trump.
Medical sources informed media that photojournalist Mahmoud Wadi perished in an Israeli drone attack in central Khan Younis, a region outside the Israeli-controlled yellow zone.
Gaza's Government Media Office issued no official statement regarding the killing.
Office data released in late October documented Israel had killed 256 journalists in Gaza since Oct. 8, 2023. Wadi's death elevates the count to 257.
Global media organizations have repeatedly urged Israel to cease lethal assaults on Palestinian journalists in the Gaza Strip, yet Tel Aviv has disregarded these pleas.
Palestinians interpret the systematic targeting of Palestinian journalists by the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip as efforts to conceal its actions in the territory.
The ceasefire agreement became operational in Gaza on Oct. 10 under Trump's Gaza plan, ending two years of Israeli operations that killed over 70,000 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, and wounded more than 171,000 others since October 2023.
Israel has repeatedly breached the accord by firing on Palestinian civilians in zones beyond its control under the deal, while the Palestinian group Hamas has declared complete adherence to the agreement's provisions and pressed the US to compel Israeli compliance.
According to Gaza's Health Ministry, at least 356 Palestinians have been killed and over 900 others wounded in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire.
