Trump is optimistic on Russia-Ukraine peace talks

(MENAFN) According to recent reports, US President Donald Trump voiced renewed optimism about efforts to wind down the Russia-Ukraine conflict, stating there is a "good chance we can make a deal."

The president shared his outlook after officials from both the US and Ukraine described their latest round of discussions in Florida as constructive. He mentioned that he had been in contact with the principal negotiators and said they were “doing well,” referring to their progress.

Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One—while returning to Washington, DC after spending Thanksgiving in Florida—that "I think Russia would like to see it end and...I know Ukraine would like to see it end."

Reports indicate that further talks are expected, with the US envoy scheduled to meet Russian representatives “sometime” this week. Trump clarified that he has not imposed any firm timing on Moscow, reiterating that his only true deadline is "when the war is over."

The Florida discussions, held after an earlier session in Geneva, centered on developing a more secure and prosperous trajectory for Ukraine. While acknowledging the sensitive nature of the process, US officials noted that Russia’s participation remains essential for any lasting settlement.

Representatives from Ukraine stated that the delegation achieved “tangible progress on the path toward a just peace” and described the negotiations as a “difficult but productive round of discussions,” according to reports.
