Putin Set for Early December State Visit to India

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to make a state visit to India on Dec. 4–5, according to an announcement issued by the Kremlin on Friday.

The accompanying declaration noted that Putin will travel to India at the request of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing the journey as “significant, providing an opportunity to comprehensively discuss the entire agenda of Russian-Indian relations.”

It characterized bilateral ties as a “special, privileged strategic partnership,” emphasizing that the discussions between Putin and Modi will address ongoing international and regional matters. During the visit, Putin is also expected to hold a meeting with Indian President Droupadi Murmu.

According to the statement, “The talks are expected to result in the adoption of a joint statement and the signing of a number of bilateral interagency and commercial documents.”

News of the trip was initially revealed in August by India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. He was cited by a news agency during a meeting with Russian Security Council chief Sergey Shoygu, noting that Putin would come to India "at the end of the year."

Additionally, Putin met with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Moscow on Nov. 18, where the Indian diplomat had traveled to participate in a Shanghai Cooperation Organization gathering.
