I am a professor of Evolutionary Ecology and Conservation Biology at the University of Manchester. Our research group focuses on several main research areas:
1. Big evolutionary and ecology questions: such as the origin and consequences of social living, evolution of brain size and structure and why animals are found where they are (species distributions).
2. Animal conservation, we have worked with stakeholders in Europe and the global south to understand species resilience, variation in population performance across reserves and identifying appropriate interventions. This work has mainly concentrated on black rhinos and Cape mountain zebra but we have also worked on Grevy' zebra, Mongolian gazelles, European bison and Przewalksi's horse.
3. OneHealth and disease ecology. We work in several East African landscapes to understand parasite prevalence and impacts on wildlife, livestock and humans.
