Denmark Pledges USD12.8M to Historic Moon Exploration Mission
(MENAFN) Denmark is investing between 125 million and 130 million kroner—equivalent to $12.3 million to $12.8 million—in its inaugural moon exploration project, according to a Danish broadcaster, which broke the news Wednesday.
The initiative, named Mani, targets a 2029 launch window and will deploy a Danish-commanded satellite into lunar orbit. Its primary objective: charting safe touchdown zones for astronauts on upcoming moon expeditions.
ESA, the European Space Agency, selected the Mani project this spring from a competitive pool, advancing it alongside nine other European proposals. The mission represents a collaborative undertaking between Danish and international research organizations and private sector partners.
A critical announcement looms in mid-December, when ESA will reveal which missions receive priority funding and support over the following three-year period.
Beyond its role in facilitating human landings, Mani will provide essential reconnaissance for multiple robotic moon missions that ESA has scheduled to commence in 2030 and the years that follow.
