Qatar Hosts Launch Of The 20242025 Global Education Monitoring Report
Doha, Qatar: The State of Qatar, in cooperation with Unesco, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, hosted the launch of the 2024–2025 Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report.
The launch took place on the second day of the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE 12) at the Qatar National Convention Centre. The event was held as part of a high-level panel session titled“Leadership for Education – Leadership for Learning,” featuring prominent education leaders, international experts, and policymakers.
The session was attended by Salah Khaled, Director of Unesco's Doha Office; Dr. Jutta Urpilainen, Chair of the Advisory Board of the Report and former European Commissioner for International Partnerships; and Dr. Nouf Khalid Al-Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science.
In his opening remarks, H E Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al-Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, emphasised that the report reaffirms the pivotal role of educational leadership in developing education systems and enhancing their ability to adapt and innovate.
He noted that international evidence shows that educational leadership is a decisive factor in improving learning quality, governance, and building institutions capable of keeping pace with change. He added that the report provides an essential knowledge framework and practical recommendations that countries can benefit from based on their national priorities.
Al-Nuaimi explained that, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, the State of Qatar is working to strengthen effective, evidence-based educational leadership and has made significant progress.
The education sector's capacity has expanded by 1.7 times over the past decade, education contributed 9.4% to GDP in 2024.
