Profile Articles Activity

Mijeong Kwon, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of management in organizational behavior at Rice Business. Prior to joining Rice, Kwon was at the University of Colorado Denver and the University of Michigan, where she received her doctorate degree.

Kwon's research examines the social dynamics of work motivation - how people communicate, why they work, and how these motives shape various forms of judgment, including moral judgments, in the workplace. In her main stream of research, she finds that some people view intrinsic motivation as morally superior and more harshly judge those who work for money or recognition. She studies how leaders can better recognize and validate the diverse reasons by which employees are motivated to work, helping foster more supportive and inclusive workplace environments.

She has taught core management courses at University of Michigan's Ross School of Business and at the University of Colorado Denver Business School in various formats. A former BBA student herself, she is committed to tailoring instruction to students' diverse backgrounds and goals.
