Asean Committee In Doha Organises Walkathon
(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Asean Committee in Doha (ACD), with the support of Qatar's Ministry of Municipality organised a walkathon on Nov 22 at Legtaifiya Park, bringing together ambassadors of the seven Asean embassies represented in Doha. The envoys are: 2025 ACD chairman Sira Swangsilpa (Thailand), Mohamed Bahrin Abu Bakar (Brunei Darussalam) Ridwan Hassan (Indonesia), Faizal Razali (Malaysia), Mardomel Celo D Melicor (Philippines), Pong Kok Tian (Singapore), and Nguyen Huy Hiep (Vietnam), along with Asean diplomats, embassy staff, and their families.
The ACD commended Qatar for becoming the first country in the world to have all its municipalities recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as "Healthy Cities" - a remarkable achievement that demonstrates Qatar's commitment to public health and wellbeing. This milestone also reflects Qatar's broader vision to promote healthy living, improve mental health across communities, and advance the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030 through health, wellbeing, and inclusion in sport.
The Brunei envoy highlighted that the ACD walkathon fits well with Qatar's impressive progress in promoting health and well-being.“We are pleased to have this walkathon activity for the ACD, an initiative aimed to promote greater awareness and motivation towards healthy living, mental well-being, active ageing and community health among the Asean community in Qatar”, said ambassador Mohamed Bahrin. The Legtaifiya Park, located near to several diplomatic and Asean missions in Doha, served as an ideal venue for the walkathon.
The park is home to Qatar's - and the region's first - inclusive playground, designed to accommodate all children of all abilities, including those with mobility impairments, further exemplifying Qatar's commitment to accessibility and inclusive community spaces.
