Kuwait Highlights Key Role Of Asia-Pacific Group In Advancing UN Reform Efforts

NEW YORK, Nov 19 (KUNA) -- Kuwait underscored the crucial role of the Asia-Pacific Group in supporting United Nations efforts to modernize and strengthen its working mechanisms, Ambassador Tareq Al-Banai, Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the UN, said on Tuesday.
Presiding over a meeting reviewing progress on the UN80 Initiative's action plan, Al-Banai emphasized Kuwait's commitment -during its current chairmanship of the Asia-Pacific Group- to ensuring active participation of member states in shaping reform priorities. He also praised the UN Secretariat's regular briefings for promoting transparency and inclusiveness.
UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammad outlined the core elements of the UN80 action plan, noting that the initiative aims to modernize the UN system, enhance coordination among its bodies, and improve readiness to address rapidly evolving global challenges.
She added that the planned reforms focus on boosting efficiency and expanding operations in areas with specific needs and operational demands.
The meeting concluded by reaffirming the importance of continued constructive dialogue between the UN Secretariat and the Asia-Pacific Group. (end)
