Trump Warns World Cup Venues Could Be Moved

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump indicated on Monday that FIFA World Cup fixtures planned for American cities next year might be reassigned if municipal leaders fail to provide firm security assurances.

When asked about the possible consequences should FIFA decide to move matches elsewhere, Trump remarked that governors and mayors “are going to have to behave,” singling out California as an example.

He asserted, “In the case of California, you have a problem, you have high crime,” noting that several regions of the state had recently endured significant wildfires.

According to Trump, “If we didn’t go in, from the crime standpoint, you would have had a disaster.”

Trump expressed that he would be pleased for Los Angeles to host the scheduled games but stressed that federal authorities must be permitted to intervene if circumstances require it.

He stated, “If they want help during this, I would love to send in the National Guard, or whoever is necessary, to help them. I want it to be great. I'd love it to be in Los Angeles.”

The United States is set to stage World Cup matches across 11 cities throughout June and July 2026, as part of a collaboration with Mexico and Canada for the tournament.
