Chris Pharo Exits 72Point

(MENAFN- PRovoke) LONDON - Chris Pharo, the CEO of consumer agency 72Point, is stepping down after 10 years leading the business.

Pharo (pictured, left) joined the agency as managing director in early 2016 after a 25-year career as a journalist with Murdoch family-owned News UK and News Corp, latterly as associate editor of the Sun newspaper. He was elevated from MD to become the agency's first CEO in March last year.

During his tenure, Pharo grew 72Point – founded in 2000 by three South-West News Service (SWNS) journalists – into one of the leading consumer PR, earned media and creative content agencies in the UK, with income of around £14.5 million in 2024 and offices in London and New York.

As part of the leadership transition, Katie Earlam (pictured, right) will assume the role of acting managing director of 72Point, working under group CEO Sam Barcroft, who took on the role in August this year after 72Point owner SWNS Media Group acquired his digital content consultancy Creatorville. 72Point Group also includes market research company OnePoll.

Pharo said the decision was his own and that he leaves the business“hugely proud of what we've achieved,” adding that“the company has an exciting future ahead and is in safe and capable hands.”

In a LinkedIn post, he said:“The past decade has been the honour of my professional life. To lead a team of such dedication, professionalism and talent has been truly humbling. All businesses evolve and I look forward to seeing Sam Barcroft and his management team take the business to new heights in the coming years.

"I'm now going to take a breath and some much-needed rest before considering what's next in the weird and wonderful world of PR and Media next year.”

Barcroft said Pharo had“played a pivotal role in shaping the business and driving long-term growth.” He added that the transition“creates an opportunity for the next phase of development, ensuring the business is aligned with the group's ambitions in earned media and brand storytelling.”

Earlam joined 72Point in 2022 and has served as campaigns director and director of creative strategy, leading major brand campaigns and driving the business's creative output.

She said:“I am delighted to step into the role of acting MD at such an important time. I've watched Chris in awe as he has built 72Point over the last decade. I'm excited about the evolution of the business, as it is well-positioned for continued growth, creativity and impact.”

Previously, Earlam held senior roles at Goldbug Brand & Communications and spent a decade as a journalist, columnist and interviews producer at outlets including the Sun and Sky News. The agency said her background across newsroom environments, content creation and PR strategy was“a strong foundation to guide 72Point's continued growth.”
