China Signs Off on Fentanyl Precursors Halt
(MENAFN) FBI Director Kash Patel announced Wednesday that Beijing has pledged sweeping enforcement measures targeting the chemical pipeline fueling the global fentanyl crisis, unveiling tangible commitments following his recent diplomatic mission to the Chinese capital.
During a White House briefing, Patel disclosed that negotiations at China's Ministry of Public Security yielded a comprehensive enforcement strategy. "While at Ministry of Public Security headquarters ... the Chinese government agreed on a plan to stop fentanyl precursors," the FBI chief said, detailing his just-completed Beijing visit.
The accord marks a significant escalation in bilateral narcotics control. China has now formally classified and scheduled all 13 chemical precursors integral to fentanyl synthesis, according to Patel's account. The commitment extends beyond precursor scheduling alone: "Furthermore, they have agreed to control seven chemical subsidiaries that are also utilized to produce this lethal drug," he stated.
Stateside enforcement efforts have intensified dramatically. The FBI has confiscated nearly 1,900 kilograms of fentanyl—a staggering 31% surge compared to the corresponding period in the prior year, Patel revealed, underscoring the scale of the narcotics threat and the urgency of the transpacific collaboration.
