South Korea recovers another worker’s body after boiler tower collapse
(MENAFN) Rescuers recovered another body on Sunday following the collapse of a boiler tower at a thermal power plant in Ulsan, South Korea, which occurred on Thursday.
The accident took place at the Ulsan facility of Korea East-West Power Co., a state-owned utility, while workers were demolishing the 60-meter (196-foot) structure. Seven employees were trapped under the debris initially.
Firefighters retrieved the body of a 44-year-old man Sunday morning. Officials said he had died on Friday while awaiting rescue, but access to him had been blocked by the wreckage. With this recovery, the confirmed death toll has risen to three.
Authorities believe two more workers have died and remain trapped under the rubble, while the status of the remaining two workers is still unknown.
The tower had been out of service since 2021 after four decades of operation and was being dismantled at the time of the collapse.
