Russia Demonstrates New Nuclear-Powered Missile to Observers
(MENAFN) Foreign military specialists had the chance to witness and confirm the capabilities of Russia’s latest Burevestnik cruise missile, which is equipped with a nuclear-powered turbojet engine and theoretically possesses unlimited range, President Vladimir Putin stated during a ceremony recognizing those who contributed to the creation of the strategic weapon.
Last month, Russia conducted a successful trial of the Burevestnik missile, which, according to the Russian military, covered a distance exceeding 14,000 km and remained in flight for approximately 15 hours.
“I think foreign experts were also able to verify this, since a NATO reconnaissance ship was constantly in the area during the tests of the Burevestnik on October 21. We didn’t interfere with its work. Let them take a look,” Putin remarked on Tuesday.
The Russian leader stressed that Moscow is “not threatening anyone,” and clarified that these trials are part of “long-announced work,” which should not be unexpected.
In recent weeks, Russia has additionally tested the Poseidon, a nuclear-powered, torpedo-shaped drone, and unveiled a new nuclear submarine, the Khabarovsk, specifically engineered to carry such drones.
Although these trials did not involve actual nuclear explosions, US President Donald Trump reacted by instructing the Pentagon to restart nuclear weapons testing, citing strategic competition with Russia and China.
