Doha, Qatar: Türkiye reaffirmed its commitment to global solidarity and deepened its partnership with Qatar on social policy and welfare during the World Summit for Social Development being held in Doha.

In an interview with The Peninsula, Türkiye's Minister of Family and Social Services H E Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, highlighted her country's efforts to share its extensive experience in social services while building stronger international cooperation.“As Türkiye, we have a lot of experience in social services, and we would like to exchange our experience with different countries,” Minister Göktaş said.“During the summit, we held 11 bilateral meetings and signed five agreements with different countries. This platform allows us to share knowledge, learn from one another, and even develop common digital and social policy terminology.”

Göktaş emphasised that Türkiye's growing collaboration with Qatar reflects a shared vision for social solidarity, inclusion, and sustainable development.“This summit in Doha provides an important opportunity for us to strengthen our partnership with Qatar, a country that shares our commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind,” she said.

Addressing global demographic changes, Göktaş noted that shifting birth and aging trends demand new social policies.“People are living longer, and our societies are changing. In Türkiye, we are developing policies to support both children and older persons, ensuring that everyone can live with dignity,” she said.

The Minister pointed to the rise of individualism following the COVID-19 pandemic as a challenge to collective well-being.“Unfortunately, people have become more individualistic and materialistic after COVID. This summit is a reminder of our shared values of solidarity, which is a call to come together again as communities,” she explained.

Reiterating Türkiye's commitment to inclusive growth and human dignity, Göktaş added,“Every person has the right to live in dignity. This summit helps us look at what we may have missed in the past 25 years and renew our efforts. We have only five years left to achieve our shared goals.” Göktaş's remarks underscored Türkiye's active role in shaping global social policy and the importance of Türkiye–Qatar cooperation in promoting equitable and sustainable development across societies. The Minister also affirmed that through continued dialogue, shared learning, and cooperative initiatives, the two nations aim to build a more compassionate global community.
