Trump defines Supreme Court tariff case as ‘life or death’ for nation
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has described an upcoming Supreme Court case on the legality of tariffs as “literally, life or death” for the nation, stressing what he considers high stakes for both economic and national security.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that a ruling in his favor would deliver “tremendous, but fair, financial and national security,” while a loss would leave the US “virtually defenseless against other countries who have, for years, taken advantage of us.”
Trump pointed to the stock market’s strong performance, saying it is “consistently hitting record highs” and that the US has “never been more respected than it is right now.” He credited much of this success to tariffs implemented during his administration and trade deals negotiated as a result, adding: “A big part of this is the Economic Security created by Tariffs, and the Deals that we have negotiated because of them. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments on Wednesday in a landmark case challenging Trump’s use of emergency powers to impose wide-ranging tariffs, a decision that could redefine the scope of presidential authority over trade policy.
