Ukraine Will Not Be Left“Alone” With Winter - Von Der Leyen
“Ukraine will not face this winter alone,” von der Leyen said following a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
She confirmed that the EU would provide Ukraine with“emergency energy support” for the coming months.
The head of the European Commission added that at the same time, the EU is working on options to provide the necessary sustainable financial assistance to Ukraine.
“Tomorrow, we will adopt our Enlargement Package, which will commend Ukraine's remarkable commitment to its European path over the past year,” von der Leyen said.
She added that the European Commission is sending a signal that“Ukraine is ready to move forward” on the path of European integration.
As reported by Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that Ukraine needs $2 billion to import gas during the heating season, but is short USD 750 million. He also expressed his gratitude to the European Union for allocating an additional EUR 127 million in winter support.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky recalled that during the last summit, EU leaders made a political decision on frozen Russian asset, and a practical decision should be made by the end of the year.
