Russian PM Visits China for Key Inter-Governmental Meeting
(MENAFN) Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin arrived in China on Monday for a two-day official visit to participate in an inter-governmental meeting, the Russian government said.
A statement on Telegram announced Mishustin’s arrival, noting that he was greeted by officials including the ambassadors of Moscow and Beijing to each other’s countries.
The last regular meeting between the Russian and Chinese prime ministers took place in Moscow in August 2024.
On Sunday, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko co-chaired the 29th session of the committee for regular meetings between the two governments in Ningbo, in eastern Zhejiang province.
Late last month, a Russian government statement said that in addition to attending the regular meeting in Hangzhou, Mishustin will meet with President Xi Jinping in Beijing, though the statement did not specify the exact date of the talks.
The statement added: “During the upcoming meetings, current issues related to strengthening Russian-Chinese relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation are planned to be discussed,” emphasizing that priority will be given to boosting cooperation in trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian sectors.
It also noted that Mishustin’s visit will focus on promoting joint projects in energy, industry, agriculture, education, and other fields.
During Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Beijing in May last year, he and Xi signed a joint statement to further deepen their strategic partnership as the two nations marked the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
Bilateral trade between Russia and China has reached a record $240 billion, highlighting growing economic ties.
