(MENAFN) Two British nationals have been taken into custody following a stabbing attack on a train that left 10 passengers injured, nine of them critically, UK authorities confirmed on Sunday. Police emphasized that there is currently no indication the incident is linked to terrorism.

The British Transport Police (BTP), who are leading the investigation, said the suspects — a 32-year-old Black British man and a 35-year-old British national of Caribbean descent — were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

“At this stage in the investigation, there is nothing to suggest the incident is linked to terrorism,” the BTP told reporters, stressing that authorities are exploring all possible motives.

The attack occurred late Saturday on the Doncaster to London King’s Cross train. Emergency services were deployed immediately, and victims were rushed to nearby hospitals. The BTP confirmed that nine of the 10 injured are in critical condition, with one sustaining less severe injuries.

Investigators are continuing to piece together the circumstances that led to the violent assault. The British Transport Police said they are reviewing CCTV footage, witness accounts, and forensic evidence to understand the motive behind the attack.

Police have urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to come forward, as the investigation remains ongoing.
