Stabbing on Cambridgeshire Train Leaves Nine Injured
(MENAFN) British authorities reported early Sunday that a mass stabbing on a train has left nine individuals with life-threatening wounds.
"Ten people have been taken to hospital following a multiple stabbing on a train in Cambridgeshire. Nine are believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries," British Transport Police (BTP) said on US social media platform X.
Although no deaths have been confirmed, law enforcement declared the event a “major incident” and stated that counterterrorism officials will aid in the investigation.
Two suspects have been detained in connection with the attack.
"We are currently responding to an incident on a train to Huntingdon where multiple people have been stabbed," BTP posted earlier on X.
The statement noted that officers were present along with Cambridgeshire police.
BTP later clarified that the train involved was the 6.25 pm GMT service traveling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the episode as "appalling" and "deeply concerning."
"My thoughts are with all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency services for their response," he added on X, urging local residents to follow police guidance.
In response, London North Eastern Railway warned that certain train services could face cancellations or delays of up to an hour due to the ongoing investigation.
