Israeli Strikes Kill Eighteen Palestinians in Gaza Despite Ceasefire
(MENAFN) At least 18 people were killed and dozens more injured Tuesday in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, medical sources reported, marking a fresh breach of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Eyewitnesses and medical officials told media that all strikes struck within the so-called “yellow line”—the area Israeli forces are supposed to avoid under the current ceasefire.
The “yellow line” is a physical boundary inside Gaza, south of Gaza City and north of Khan Younis, dividing the territory in half and delineating areas from which Israeli forces have pulled back under the ceasefire deal.
In western Gaza City’s Sabra neighborhood, an airstrike struck a home, killing four people, injuring nine others, and leaving several missing beneath the rubble, according to the sources.
In central Gaza City, the Israeli army killed three Palestinians when a house in the al-Yarmouk area was hit.
A child also died, and others were injured, when an Israeli strike struck an apartment on Al-Jalaa Street in the city’s west. Another strike targeted a home in the Al-Shati refugee camp in western Gaza City.
In northern Gaza, a school sheltering displaced people in Beit Lahia was hit, killing three Palestinians and wounding several more. In southern Gaza, five Palestinians were killed in an airstrike targeting a vehicle in Khan Younis.
Further strikes in Khan Younis’ Al-Amal neighborhood killed two Palestinians and injured others after hitting an apartment building.
The Israeli army said the attacks followed orders from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to carry out “immediate, powerful strikes” in response to alleged ceasefire violations by Hamas.
Reporters noted that an airstrike hit the Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City, while artillery fire targeted areas east of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza. Missiles also struck near the Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City.
The ceasefire, brokered on Oct. 10 under US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan, calls for the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. The agreement also outlines rebuilding Gaza and establishing a new governing framework excluding Hamas.
Since October 2023, Israel has killed over 68,500 people in Gaza, most of them women and children, and injured more than 170,000 others, according to reports.
